Special provision exists for Universities and HE Institutions, who irrespective of their size and annual income, can apply for both small or large grants from CPT, on condition that they must be partnering with a micro, small, medium or large charity in their project proposal to us to be eligible for our funding in a joint bid of this nature.

But if successful in securing funds from the CPT, you can only hold one CPT grant at a time.

If successful in securing a grant from us, the University/HE Institution can only reapply for future funding after a two-year time period has elapsed from date of receipt of last funds from CPT.

Depending on the size of your charity, the two types of grants that CPT offers are:

1)     Large Grants Programme (£5,001- £60,000): Grants awarded are typically around £30,000 - £50,000, to be spent within two years. However, for exceptional projects the Trust may, at the trustees discretion, consider higher levels of funding for up to £60,000. A full online application form with supporting documentation and an external reference must be completed for this type of grant.

2)    Small Grants Programme (£1,000-£5,000): Grants awarded are typically around £3,000 to £5,000 and are designed to support projects usually at parish or local levels. All projects should be completed within one year. To be eligible for a small grant an organization must have an annual turnover of less than £100,000 and be a legally registered charity. A condensed online application form must be completed for this type of grant and an external reference and supporting documentation is required.

The next CPT large grants round will open on 16th January 2025.

All applications for either large or small grants are made online using one of our two application forms. The two blank application templates below, one for small grant applications, and one for large grant applications, shows all the questions we will ask of you. Please note that more information is required for large grant applications so this application form comprises of more questions. Depending on the size of your charity, the two types of grants that CPT offers are:

Unfortunately, our technology does not allow applications to be saved online to be returned to later, so we advise that all applicants have all the information they will need available to hand, in order to be able to complete the online form in one sitting. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We recommend completing a blank application template in Word first, and then cutting and pasting your responses into our online form from this pre-saved template. We estimate that it takes approximately one hour to submit a small grant application to us and up to 90 minutes to complete our more detailed large grant application if you have pre-prepared your responses in this way.

Additional considerations

  • Previously unsuccessful applicants are welcome to submit a new application to us.
  • However, applicants who have been successful in securing funds from us, must now wait two years from date of last receipt of funds from us, before re-applying for another grant from us.
  • While a charity can potentially chose to submit more than one application to us in each grant round this is not recommended at it diminishes the chances of a successful outcome by increasing the competition, and in any case, we will only be able to fund one successful proposal at a time from any one applicant.
  • It is possible for a small charity to apply for either a small or a large grant. However, please note that charities with an annual turnover over £100,000 are only eligible to apply for a large grant with us.
  • We regret that we are now no longer able to fund any charity with an annual income over £10 million. The only exception to this is for Universities and HE institutions partnership with a charity.
  • All applicants must upload with their online application the latest set of their charity’s annual accounts, a specific project budget, a copy of the charity’s safeguarding policy and an external reference in support of your application proposal.
  • Please do not attach any other additional digital media files such as film, still images or audio.
