New Life and Hope after Domestic Abuse and Homelessness

In June 2023, CPT partnered with The Haven Wolverhampton in supporting women and children to overcome the trauma of domestic abuse and homelessness. The Trust awarded a large grant of £52,894 over two years toward a Domestic Abuse Key Worker providing specialist support in safe accommodation.

Following changes to benefit thresholds, coupled with reduced availability of social housing, the support of the Domestic Abuse Key Worker has been a lifeline to many extremely vulnerable women and children.

In total, 77 women and 64 children have been supported by the Key Worker, reaching a wide range of women and children from diverse backgrounds facing a mixture of complex needs and issues.

From finding new GPs and arranging access to LifeSkills programmes, to supporting women without a confirmed immigration status in the UK with their applications for leave to remain, the Key Worker has become not only an advocate but a voice to many vulnerable women and children seeking refuge and a new start.

82% of women reported reduced risk and improved feelings of safety.
80% of women have accessed mental health support reporting improved health and well-being with reduced self-harm and symptoms of trauma/anxiety, and an increase in using positive coping strategies.
90% of women reported feeling more confident in asking for help and having a better support network thanks to the work they have done with their Key Worker.
Together we have been able to support 141 women and children navigate life in safe accommodation, heal from the abuse they have experienced and move onto a new life free from abuse. ~ Stephanie Boswell, Senior Grants Officer

In this Easter season of new life and hope, we continue to champion the work of The Haven Wolverhampton in offering vulnerable women and children a refuge and a new start.
