CLD Trust, the Herefordshire based mental health charity in celebrating its 30th anniversary and a recent commendation of its work by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), has reported positive impacts from the application of a CPT grant in year one.
The NHS contract it delivers allows them to provide referred young people experiencing a variety of mental health challenges with up to six counselling sessions. The majority of the 1700 plus young people served each year see positive outcomes from these interventions.
CLD has, however, discovered in recent years an alarming growth in the nature and complexity of mental health conditions being faced by young people. Understandably, for many, their more acute needs are not susceptible to relatively short-term responses.
The grant has allowed the CLD Trust to further enhance and enrich its standard service offer, as well as providing some 55 highly vulnerable young people with the precious gift of extra time in the counselling process. These extended interventions of up to six sessions have already resulted in those affected by the most profound and deep-rooted issues to report positive improvements and in some cases lasting life changing differences.
CLD’s ambition in the next year is to further demonstrate the efficacy of an extended intervention for certain young people and to make the case for such to be included selectively when the NHS next reviews its contracts.
